The biomass-derived fuels and power industries have grown at vertiginous rates on a global scale over the past few years, raising serious questions about its long-term financial and environmental sustainability.
Central to these issues is the availability of cheap raw materials for liquid and solid biofuels as we know them now in the US, i.e. corn ethanol and soy biodiesel. These fuels consume feedstocks traditionally destined for food end uses, which poses an ethical and distributive dilemma that can only worsen as more production capacity comes online.
Axios has therefore elected to focus its project development, consulting and representation efforts primarily on inedible feedstocks that are outside the conventional commodities markets and on the technologies and industry players that will allow these feedstocks to become viable alternatives to those in use today. We believe that our forward-looking emphasis on financial and environmental sustainability ensures, above all, the long-term success of our clients and the biomass energy industry at large. |
